Do you know the history of Thanksgiving? This holiday, celebrated the fourth Thursday in November, is a U.S. holiday that dates back to colonial times. It’s a celebration of gratefulness, a full harvest, and family. Take a look at some of the facts about this food-filled holiday.

The Beginnings

The first Thanksgiving was held in 1621. The Plymouth colony pilgrims celebrated a harvest with the Wampanoag Indians. It had been a long, cold winter the year before and many pilgrims and early settlers had died from starvation and other diseases related to settling a new land. The Wampanoag Indians shared their harvest feast with the settlers, who also shared their goods.

An Official Holiday

For more than 20 years, Thanksgiving was celebrated by individual states and colonies. In the midst of the turmoil of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving be held nationwide every November. Thanksgiving became an official holiday in 1863.

Modern Day Celebrations

Today, Americans gather for Thanksgiving Day with friends and family to celebrate the blessings they have received throughout the year. Turkey is the traditional food of choice, accompanied by potatoes, gravy, fresh rolls, pie, and of course, cupcakes. The feast is often followed by a game of football in many families.

If you are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, be sure to type in your favorite recipe finder cupcake recipes for some delicious treats to enjoy. While you’re at it, search for pumpkin pie too! Start searching through those recipe archives now to plan the perfect feast to celebrate this blessed occasion.

How will you celebrate Thanksgiving Day?

Between a career, housework and other life demands, finding time to spend with your children can be difficult. However, before you have time to react, your children will be grown and moving away from home. Here are three ways you can spend more time with your children.

Play Board Games

There’s no better way to connect with your children than by recapturing your youth. Set aside one or two evenings each week to play board games with your kids and reunite as a family. The best board games are those that bring all ages together for an exciting challenge.

Cook Together

Typically, moms take on the household cooking, shooing children away until the meal is complete. If you’re guilty of doing this, change things up by inviting your kids to cook the next meal with you. Many kid-friendly cooking recipes are available to help your children experience the joy of cooking, while also reconnecting with you.

Watch Movies in Bed

If you normally rush through weekend mornings catching up on housework, make next weekend different. Instead, eat breakfast in bed with your children and lounge around all morning watching movies. This can develop into a family tradition, and is a great way to shed the stress of the previous week while enjoying quality time with your youngsters.

Many opportunities exist to spend more time with your children. Whether you reconnect over the dinner table or by playing board games once a week, by reconnecting with your children, you’ll develop into a stronger family.

Many people like to blame a school for their child’s poor reading skills or inability to memorize colors, but these simple tasks begin in the home. True, schools are meant to teach children how to read and write, but they are more meant to enhance their already obtained knowledge. The students that are great when they enter kindergarten and learn easily throughout elementary school are the ones with parents that have already given them a base for their education. So how can you, as a parent, aid in your child’s education?

You can help your child learn by playing games with them. Simple games, especially with colored pieces, will help them learn their colors and numbers. There are plenty of games that will help in your child’s learning of basic ideas.

Read to them. You can find many books that explain colors and numbers. These books won’t only help your child learn basic ideas, but will aid in their reading skills and their direct understanding of the alphabet.

Let them watch television. There are many children’s shows that are quite entertaining. Even if it isn’t meant to be educational, they will be learning from pretty much any show, but make sure it is appropriate for their age.

Talk to your child often. This can be as simple as reading a book or having a conversation with them. Talking to them will help them in their communication and speech skills. It will also teach them how to interact with other people well.

Just because your child is attending school does not mean that you are done teaching them. Begin teaching them simple things such as colors and numbers when they are young. When they enter school you can continue helping them by teaching them to add and subtract. The older they get, the more advanced their education at home should get. By the time they’re in mid-elementary school, you can begin teaching them things such as cooking.

Everyday it seems we are faced with the uncertainties of life. Whether it is our economic times or we are just wondering where our lives will lead us, we all see those uncertainties and unknowns in life.

If we have families, we want to make sure that they are protected and that their futures hold promise and be as bright as possible. Protecting those futures should involve insurance. We should all be protected for anything that may come our way including health problems, making sure our homes and assets are protected, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of in case of death.

Insurance is a well-documented way of making sure that when those uncertainties arise, we can face them with some assurance that we’ll make it through. And with the internet, getting online insurance quotes makes obtaining insurance much easier. Our health insurance can help us maintain our health through regular doctor visits. This insurance can help us through any medical issues that may arise. This may be as simple as a scrape or the flu, but we can also face major medical issues and diseases.

Insurance for our automobiles can help protect what is a rather sizable investment. This insurance can help get us back on the road if we happen to be involved in an accident or our car is stolen or vandalized.

Homeowners insurance can help us through unseen crises such as natural disasters or if our plumbing malfunctions and we need to perform repairs as a result.

Life insurance is important in protecting our family’s futures, as well as helping them maintain their lifestyles. For example, if you currently trade forex online, your insurance will ensure your family is entitled to any profit or income those investments create. Death is already a stressful event and it doesn’t need to be exacerbated by facing the future without financial support.

A new computer will often include anti-virus software that has already been installed. These programs are usually offered as a free trial, and will cost money per year to continue the service after the trial has ended. Some computer users may not even be aware that they will need to purchase a subscription to the software in order to continue protecting their files and hardware.

Anti-virus software is a must for every computer. Some programs provide a basic free edition of the software, which can usually be downloaded and stored on the hard drive. It will run frequent scans to check for any malicious files, and can protect against most threats. The programs that cost will typically include additional protection, such as against spyware, adware, and other dangerous files that can be accidentally downloaded while browsing the internet.

Keeping the software up-to-date and current at all times is the only way it can be effective. Most programs will require that updates are downloaded, and this can usually be done while working on other programs. Operating systems are designed to look for threats, so don’t ignore any warnings that the software is not working properly. These can be very useful when trying to make sure that every aspect of the computer is well guarded.

When working on a computer, keeping files and components protected is necessary to avoid crashes and other problems. The alerts are designed to keep users aware of what is needed in order to maintain the highest possible level of security and keep intruders and risky files away.

There are not many children who do not feel some kind of anxiety when they are saying goodbye to their mother or father. It is normal, and usually goes away as they get older. In some cases however, separation anxiety does not diminish as they grow, it sometimes gets worse.

If your child suffers from separation anxiety there are a few things you can do to help them for the times when you are going to have to leave them somewhere and say goodbye. With some practice and patience you can make your goodbyes easier.

Starting a ritual can make the goodbye predictable and can often be comforting for anxious children. If they know what is coming and how it is going to happen they are often able to cope better. A goodbye ritual can be just blowing them a kiss from the doorway as you leave, or a making a silly face as you walk by the window.

If your child is anxious about your leaving, don’t drag it out. Bring them to their caregiver, say goodbye and tell them you love them and then leave the room. If you stick around trying to comfort them it will make the goodbye more difficult. It will also make it more difficult for you to say goodbye as well if you see they are upset.

If your child does well when you leave them, make sure to praise them and let them know they did a good job when you return. Again, don’t dwell on it, but give them some positive reinforcement and then move on to other fun things they did while you were gone.

Saving money on regular monthly payments is the best way to put money in your pocket. A major milestone in many young adults’ lives is when they decide to stop spending so much and learn to save. Lowering your monthly bills is a smart way to keep more money in your bank account. In addition to paying down high interest loans or credit cards, a car refinance can also save you hundreds of dollars a year.

Refinancing your car loan saves you money when you swap out your old interest rate for a newer, lower rate. Ideally, car refinancing will follow after you’ve improved your credit score. Your loan holder will not be in a hurry to offer you a lower interest rate if your credit score has flat-lined or worsened. Remember that you can’t refinance your loan with your original lender. Instead, shop around at different loan companies and select the company offering you the lowest refinance rate.

Absolutely do not delay in refinancing your loan. The lifespan of most car loans is in the neighborhood of five years. Each month you delay on your refinance results in you spending money you don’t need to spend. On top of that, with most loans, you are paying off the interest before you pay off the loan. This means a delay could mean you won’t save anything if you’ve already paid off the interest.

The number you want to pay attention to when shopping for a new interest rate is the Annual Percentage Rate, or APR. Meet with individual lenders, discuss your car situation and shop for the best APR in order to save some money.

Whether your teen is beginning to act out or you want to prevent this, it is important to set healthy habits for your child. This can be a dangerous time for their development. Here are some tips to help you deal with these stressful factors.

An important beginning is realizing the effect of environments. Communication with your child is essential, as a meaningful relationship will be needed for either side to be trusted. Establishing this trust will hopefully enable you, as well as your teen, to feel comfortable with the responsibilities that come with greater age in these years.

Encourage your child to participate in healthy activities. Perhaps there are sports or clubs at your child’s high school that he or she will enjoy. These can be great opportunities to meet friends and have a healthy outlook on all things school-related.

Also, look for ways teens to stay active in their free time. If your son enjoys playing poker with his friends, think about getting a couple of professional poker tables for the basement, as this could be a safe and fun place for them to hang out. Work on building healthy habits such as this, especially in relationship to activities, to protect your child without being overprotective.

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list of ways to curb rebellious tendencies from your teen. It is certainly a process that needs to be met with sincerity. Work on your relationship with your teen foremost, and spend some time evaluating how other factors play a role in your teen’s development

One of the most fun things as a mother is to dress up your little darling in the cutest baby clothes. Once your kid hits the toddler years, he or she will have an opinion on the clothes worn, so take the chance while you still have a baby and find some cute clothes.

Where to Find Cute Clothes

We’d all love to go to children boutiques when looking for clothes for our dear darling, but for most of us, that’s not in the budget. So where can you look for cute clothes at the right price? The answer is stores like Ross, TJ Max, and Burlington Coat Factory. These stores have the most popular brands including Carter’s, but the prices are deeply discounted. What would cost $25 at Babies R Us is only $10 at Ross, for example. When you’re ready to pay, just pull out your Reach Prepaid Visa Card to pay, so you don’t have to worry about carrying cash.

Buy at the End of a Season

Another great way to save is to buy clothes near the end of the season. In order for this to work, you’ll need to start while you’re pregnant. For example, at the end of winter, buy coats, gloves, and snow suits for the next winter. The store will discount the clothes to get rid of their stock and make room for the next season so you’re sure to get a great deal if you think ahead.

Even if you don’t have a lot to spend, with a little planning, you’ll be able to find the cutest baby clothes for a great price.

Your child’s fifth birthday is one of the great milestones of her life. This may be the first birthday she actually remembers, so you need to make it extra special.

First, get her opinions and find out what kind of party your child wants, and when you can, do what she asks. It’s her special day, and she deserves special treatment. So, when she asks for something, if you can, let her have it. It’s okay to splurge a little. If she wants a particular type of decor, by all means let her pick it out. Creativity is something every child should develop, and letting her have a measure of creative control will teach her how her actions can change the world. This is true even if those changes are only tiny ones that don’t last very long. The party itself can let her develop self-confidence.

When it comes to birthday gifts, maybe your child wants American Girl doll clothes. Maybe she wants an outfit or two for herself. Listen carefully as your child describes what gifts top her list for this birthday. This is about more than just showing off the kinds of gifts you can afford to give. These gifts can provide an inspiration to your child and plant the seeds for future development. As a child grows older, the clothes she wore, even at a young age, or the outfits she put on her doll will help her develop and cultivate her own style. It’s clear that a fifth birthday is a celebration that requires thought and planning from both the child and parents.

As a first-time mother, childbirth is an exciting time, but also a time of much confusion. You are sure to have many questions regarding the entire delivery procedure, as well as the well-being of the child and yourself throughout it all. That’s why it’s important to meet with a doctor beforehand to extensively discuss the procedure and address any concerns, especially since every birth is different. When you reach the later stages of pregnancy, be sure to schedule a meeting and prepare your questions.

First, you should inquire about aspects of the actual delivery. Ask the doctor how he or she performs a typical delivery, and if there are any foreseeable differences in the case of your pregnancy. Be sure to be as specific as possible by asking questions about every little detail, such as your positioning during labor, and certainly, what medications may be administered. If your delivery happens differently to what the doctor initially described to you, and you think something may have gone wrong, it’s a good idea to seek out the consultation of a local lawyer who specializes in medical malpractice, such as the birth injury attorneys California has to offer.

To help eliminate confusion and possible conflict during and after delivery, go through a miscellaneous set of questions with your doctor. This can include everything from religious birth rituals to circumcision. It’s recommended that you establish beforehand with your doctor exactly who is allowed in the delivery room, especially if you are using a midwife or other personal labor professional.

If you are a mom it can be hard to find the money to treat yourself when you are always buying new things for your children. It is important to remember that everyone deserves some downtime. It is possible to treat yourself to some fun and relaxation without breaking the bank.

Look for specials in your local area by using sites like Offers.com. Some bowling alleys will have ladies’ night where women bowl for free. You and your lady friends can all bowl without spending a dime on games. There are usually also food and drink specials. A group of you can even share a babysitter to save money.

Go to an early matinee movie and leave the kids with your signifigant other. Matinee prices can sometimes be four dollars lower than nighttime tickets.

Host a party at your house and make it a potluck. If each guest has to bring a dish, then you won’t have the burden of spending money to feed an entire group. Make fun cocktails or give your party a theme to add to the excitement.

If you can get a babysitter on a Tuesday or Thursday night, many bars and restaurants have specials on these days to attract college kids. Take advantage of these deals with your own friends. Fifty cent beers and two dollar tacos can be fun at any age and are easy on the wallet.

Organize something fun but free for women in your area. Start a walking group if you are a health fanatic. If you enjoy reading, be the host of a book club.

Crawling, standing, and those first steps, your baby’s first year has many new experiences that are both exciting and a little worrisome for parents. Deciding how and when to child proof your home is another aspect to consider as your child begins exploring their environment.

The first year of your child’s life brings with it a natural curiosity to explore their environment. Your baby’s natural response will be to crawl and walk, exploring your home, while investigating how everything works. This is part of their learning process. Thus, it often becomes parent’s first concern to provide the safety necessary to protect their child.

One way to begin child proofing your home is to start low. Crawl around your own home and look for safety issues that could become a problem or harmful. Areas that are usual concerns include electrical outlets, exposed electrical wires, and cabinets or drawers with sharp or dangerous items.

Child safety sections often contain child safety products, which can minimize these issues. For instances, many places carry electrical outlet covers, child safety locks for cabinets and drawers, or covers for door handles. Other safety devices include locks for toilets, ovens, refrigerators, and even safety knobs for items such as water coolers and stove top knobs.

Begin with the the safety section in your local hardware store or any story which carries a large variety of baby items and consider the areas your baby can reach. Choose what is best for your family and your situation. Above all, you and your baby should feel comfortable and safe.

The time has come for your child to get their first real pair of sneakers. Whether it be for school or a new sporting hobby, it can be daunting just thinking about tackling the mall with your child. Running around picking up the most expensive shoes, demanding they have the newest and dearest out there to impress their friends…or maybe they don’t want them at all, scrunching up their toes, not walking properly in the sports store, tantrums and quarrels ahead.

It doesn’t need to be a battle and here are some tips to a peaceful, productive purchase of some new sneakers!

Plan. Talk to your child and set the expectation. If they are old enough, be clear on the amount you have to spend. Also plan to go shopping either in the morning or later in the afternoon, so there isn’t added pressure of a busy store.

Functionality. What do you need the footwear to do? Does it need to have a strong enough grip? Does it have the right support? For younger legs, Nike Clothes produce a great range of sneaker options, like the Nike High Top, which is a good shoe for ankle support.

Style. Is the color appropriate for school? Will your child struggle with laces? Is velcro a better option? Is your child going to be happy wearing them and not hide them at the back of the closet?

Fit. Ask the store to fit your child’s foot properly to ensure maximum comfort and performance with adequate room for growth.

These few handy tips may just make for a more pleasant shopping trip!

One of a mother’s most important allies is her child’s pediatrician, so it stands to reason you’ll need to give a lot of thought and care to choosing someone who is just right for your family.

It’s ideal to start looking for a pediatrician during the last few months of your pregnancy. Begin your search by talking to your family and friends. Gather their recommendations and find out what they like about the pediatrician they recommend – and what they don’t like, too. What is a small dislike to your friend may be a deal-breaker for you, so speak candidly.

Once you have a handful of contenders, find out if those physicians are a part of your insurance plan and do a background check. Conducting a check is easier than you think – all you need to do to get started is a quick online search.

Next, begin scheduling interviews with those doctors who meet your criteria. Every pediatrician’s office handles the interview process differently, but don’t worry. Just let the office staff know why you are calling and they will walk you through the process. Pay attention to how the office staff treats you when you call. As a new parent, you’ll be talking to the office staff a lot and you’ll want to make sure they are warm, competent and polite.

When you meet with the doctor, take a list of prepared questions but also judge the physician’s manner. You’re looking for a warm, compassionate pediatrician who shares your views, believes in preventative medicine, and is easy to talk to. You need to feel like you can comfortably share every concern with your child’s doctor.

All babies develop differently. That’s why when you see developmental guidelines for babies and young children age ranges are usually provided instead of hard and fast dates. So long as your child reaches the important developmental milestones within or near the age ranges, your baby is doing just fine.

While you can look at week-to-week development charts, those sometimes cause more worry for new parents who become upset when their baby doesn’t appear to be exactly on track. So here are some general milestones to watch for in your child. But remember, if you ever have any questions about your baby’s development, talk to your pediatrician.

In the first few months, development will be rather slow. Spend this time caring for, cuddling and loving your baby. Some things to watch for in the first month include your baby to beginning to lift his head for short periods of time, and bringing his hands to his face. In month two, your baby should begin to smile and coo.

Once your baby is three months old, his development should grow rapidly. Your baby will begin to recognize familiar people and favorite toys, push down with his legs when you hold him in a standing position on a floor or table top, and gain better control of his head.

During the fourth month, your baby should become a better sleeper, sleeping for about a six hour stretch at night; be able to sit with assistance; and communicate different needs to you by using different cries. Your baby should also start experimenting with different sounds by babbling.

As a new parent, you will be amazed at how quickly your baby grows and changes. Once you make it past those first few months of endless feedings and late-night diaper changes, you will really be able to watch and enjoy your child as he grows and learns and his personality begins to develop.

Babies who are five months old are very aware of their environment and the people they interact with frequently. At this age a child will begin to pay attention to tiny objects, so you will need to be diligent about keeping small food pieces, small toys and other items out of baby’s reach. Children at this age learn about things by putting them in their mouths, and you don’t want your baby to choke.

Five-month-old babies are also beginning to understand cause and effect, so select toys like stackable blocks that will let them really explore this concept. Teething also often begins at this age, so be prepared for some crankiness and lots of drooling!

Once your baby is six months old, he should be able to hold a bottle, sit up easily without much support and make some two-syllable sounds. Babies at this age are also able to reach for and grab items that are beyond their immediate grasp, so again beware of what is near baby to avoid choking dangers.

Seven-month-old babies are usually ready to begin feeding themselves small finger foods. There are several products on the market made especially for this stage in baby’s development; or you can experiment with something simple and healthy like plain Cheerio’s cereal. At this age your baby should also be able to play the classic game peek-a-boo!

Every child, at every age, will experience fear at some time. In fact certain fears, such as separation anxiety, are practically a milestone of development. Even so, there are things you can do to calm a fearful child at any age.

When your child is an infant, he or she can become frightened by simple things, such as a loud noise or a new face. To help, establish a routine for your child’s life and stick to it. Keep things in your baby’s life predictable, and offer a lot of love, kind touches and encouragement. This will help your child develop a sense of trust.

Preschool-aged children are often afraid of new people, new places and new experiences. Also at this age imaginations tend to run wild, and it can be difficult for them to tell the difference between what is real and what is imaginary. At this age, you can’t reason with your child or talk them out of being afraid. The best thing to do is to try to turn what they are afraid of into a different emotion. If your child is afraid of the dark, make up fun activities you can do in the dark to distract him.

In elementary aged children fears are often based on things happening in real life. A child who hears about a house fire on the news might develop a fear of his own house burning down, for example. In this case, try talking to your child to uncover what he is afraid of. If he has a hard time expressing his thoughts, ask him to draw a picture to help illustrate his emotions.

All teens will go through a “moody” phase. In some children, you will barely notice a difference in their behavior while others will seem to be a completely different person. How, as a parent, can you handle this change in your child, and help him or her through it?

By building a relationship based on trust with your child.

For starters, the most important thing you can do is take the time to really listen to your child. Your teen is beginning to try to understand himself, the world, and how he fits into it. These are weighty issues. By being available and lending an ear – without offering judgment or complaint – you can help your child work through his issues and understand that he can trust you.

It’s also important that you respect your child’s increasing need for personal space and privacy. While every good parent knows they have to keep tabs on their child’s friends and activities, you also need to show your child you understand that he is becoming more adult and needs time to himself.

You can also establish a trustworthy relationship by showing your teen you have confidence in his decision making and abilities. Work on solving problems together, and give credence to his ideas. Teach your child that you think he is smart, and that his thoughts have merit.

By following these simple steps you will earn your teen’s love and respect, build a relationship based on trust, and be able to help him through any moodiness that arises.

Las Vegas is one of the hottest places to visit when you’re looking to get away for a little while. It’s a perfect vacation to do fantastic people watching with some girlfriends and have a memorable visit. After all we could all use a little girls weekend at least once or twice a year.

One of the most popular things to do in Las Vegas, next to shopping of course, would be to see some of the fabulous hotels. Try out New York, New York for the deli food or roller coaster ride. You’ll notice that the Las Vegas property management companies that run all the hotels keep them in impeccable condition. Enjoy the fabulous Venetian or the opulent Bellagio Hotel. Or head downtown for the light display and beautiful hotels there. Another huge attraction in Las Vegas is all the shows and live entertainment. Some of the most popular entertainers in the world perform regularly at various hotels in Las Vegas, such as Celine Dion and the Blue Man Group.

Broadway style plays are also becoming the rage in Las Vegas. People travel to New York to see Broadway plays so it’s not surprising to hear Las Vegas is bringing Broadway there. The only difference is that the Broadway shows in Vegas will be a bit shorter than the ones in New York. They do this to make the tourists happy and to be able to have a second show. Las Vegas has done this for Phantom of the Opera and it’s working out great.

Live entertainment and Broadway shows are fun for those who are aching to visit Sin City, but aren’t exactly keen on gambling. Enjoy the elaborate costumes in the shows or the swanky outfits of some of the people going to the shows! And don’t forget the shopping – many of the casinos have fabulous shopping areas, with other top-notch shopping available throughout the city.

Once your baby is eight months old, he is growing and changing rapidly. Don’t blink, or he’ll be a teenager before you know it!

Eight-month-old babies are active learners. At this age you can expect your baby to grab for the spoon when you are feeding him, and to turn his head away when he’s full. Your baby is probably a good sleeper now as well, sleeping long stretches at night (those midnight feedings should be a thing of the past) and taking a couple of naps during the day, too. Your baby should recognize his name, and will probably test gravity (and your patience) by repeatedly dropping items off of his high chair tray.

By month nine, your baby should be reaching for toys and looking for things that are dropped or momentarily hidden from view. He is realizing that objects still exist even when they are not in his view. At this age babies can also begin to recognize themselves in a mirror, and can go from lying on their tummy to a sitting position without assistance.

At ten months old, the idea of object permanence has “clicked” and your baby will most likely get upset if you take a toy or other favorite object away. Ten-month-olds are also ready to pull themselves up to a standing position.

At eleven and twelve months, babies can usually understand “no” and say “ma-ma” or “da-da.” They can wave bye-bye, crawl well and possibly walk and much more. Babies at this age are also more active players, open and closing cabinet doors, dancing, banging objects together and more.

A few years ago cell phones were only for adults. Today, children are using cell phones at younger and younger ages and are requesting their parents to provide them with the cell phone. The problem is that parents often do not know when their child is ready for cell phone or how to restrict their child’s cell phone use so that there aren’t outlandishly high bills. The way to prevent this problem from occurring is by utilizing some of the resources available to parents and making sure that their children understand exactly what a cell phone is intended to be used for.

It is recommended that parents, before they purchase a cell phone for their children, sit down with their child and discuss exactly what the cell phone is to be used for. Parents need to explain to children that the cell phone is not a toy and that it is to be used for making phone calls to parents and the occasional text message. This allows you to set guidelines and rules that need to be followed in order for your child to get a cell phone.

Once your child understands the guidelines that come with having a cell phone, parents needs to utilize the resources that are available to purchase a cell phone. Many cell phone companies allow parents to restrict certain features that come with the cell phone as well as restrict the number of minutes and text messages. If your cell phone company does not offer this, many prepaid cell phone companies like www.mycricket.com allow parents to purchase cell phones plans that can be used as great learning tools for children who are starting out using a cell phone.

By setting rules and restrictions, and taking the necessary precautions to avoid huge cell phone bills, you’ll be able to provide your child with a cell phone and protect yourself from having huge cell phone bills.

Americans have long had a reputation for being a nation of overweight people, however, the recent trend is for that health issue to exhibit itself much earlier in an individual’s life. The rate of childhood obesity is growing quickly and while parents, schools, television and fast food have all garnered blame, the truth is that much more needs to be done in order to curtail this alarming trend. Kids cannot be expected to make the best decision when it comes to choosing meals and snacks, and may need to be encouraged to get any exercise at all. There are several things that parents can do in order to help their children avoid obesity, the first of which is to present a strong role model. When kids see us skipping the gym or spending our evenings on the sofa munching chips, they will be inclined to act the same way. Look for activities that would be fun for you and your child to do together, such as taking martial arts or modern dance lessons. Stock your pantry with healthy snacks, and don’t keep high calorie chips, snack cakes or candy in the house.

Setting a good example in the home will give your child a good background in healthy eating and exercise outside the house, as well. Kids who are taught the value of nutrition and taking care of one’s body are much less likely to choose unhealthy meals and snacks in the school cafeteria. Limiting the amount of time your child is allowed to spend on the computer or in front of the television while encouraging outdoor exercise and intramural sports will also help keep them from becoming overweight. Finally, don’t go overboard with monitoring your child’s weight. The only thing worse than childhood obesity would be the development of an eating disorder.

Today’s children spend more time online in the first year of school than any previous generation managed in the first twelve years of school combined. While there are new possibilities for children on the World Wide Web and through the use of computers there are also new dangers and risks that you need to protect your children and family from as well.

You want your children to have the competitive edge and many advantages that computer literacy provides. It is up to you to start teaching your children the basics of proper computer usage and safety features from the very beginning. Young children will begin with simple computer interactions that essentially involve moving and clicking the mouse. Older children will move on to more advanced keyboard skills and then on to surfing the Internet and exploring the World Wide Web.

But there is something important you need to do before you introduce your children to the Internet. This will protect your computer and your family. What is it? It’s finding the right antivirus software to protect your computer from the many dangers it can be exposed to while children surf online.

You’ll find many great programs that you can pay for, but one of the most advanced is PC Tools Free Antivirus program. There is no cost to you and the service it offers rivals that of most paid products on the market today.

There is so much more than simply teaching computer safety ground rules, proper Internet etiquette, and safety procedures involved in keeping your family safe online. You have a lot to worry about. You can let someone else do the heavy hitting when you choose the right antivirus program for your computer. It’s one less thing that you’ll have to worry about as your children become more proficient at using the computer.

If you have very small children, why not plan a mother and daughter tea party? A festive gathering such as this can bring together all of the mothers and daughters of your family, friends and coworkers. To plan a tea party, use your imagination. Put up creative decorations, serve delicious treats, and pick out your favorite music. You can even increase your children’s enjoyment by dressing them in kids costumes.

How to Plan a Tea Party

A mother’s day tea party can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like to make it. If the weather is nice, you can host the gathering in your backyard. An indoor party will be preferable if the weather is unpredictable. Once you have the location set, you’re ready to plan the rest.

Flowers help to make all occasions festive. Choose your favorite flowers of all color varieties. Roses and lilacs are good options. Place the flowers on tables, near entryways and on shelves away from the reach of small children.

A tea party is not a tea party without a wide assortment of teas. Earl Grey and English Breakfast teas are good options for adults. For children, offer herbal tea varieties such as chamomile and peppermint tea, and juice.

Tea sandwiches and crackers and cheese are possible options for finger foods. Small cookies and fruit tarts will also make the children happy.

Entertainment and Kids Costumes

Speaking of making the children happy, dressing them in kids costumes adds a fun element to the festivities. Mothers and daughters can dress in similar costumes to reinforce the bond. Also choose your favorite pieces of music to uplift everyone’s spirit and maybe even inspire everyone to dance after they’re done with tea and cookies.

The teenage years can be a frustrating and confusing time in the lives of both the teens and their parents. Some teens will experience personality changes, mood swings and temperament that makes them nearly unrecognizable. Parents who are unable to understand the very real mental, emotional and physical changes that are responsible for this are typically unprepared to help their teens adapt. It is important to understand that in addition to the internal changes your child is experiencing, he or she is also being introduced to new ideas and concepts every day. Your teen may feel awkward and uncomfortable much of time, and peer pressure may become a dominant force in his day to day life. While his first few years were marked by his desire to please you, he is now beginning to develop a personality of his own.

There are still ways to encourage growth and change in your child’s outlook and attitude without losing him to the darker side of rebellion. Let your teen know that you expect him to begin making some of his own decisions, but that just as in the adult world, those decisions may have repercussions. Start discussions about topics in the news, morality and legal issues, which will give him an opportunity to explore his own thoughts and ideas on the matters at hand. Keep in mind that extreme grooming, dress and hygiene issues may arise with teens, and try your best to keep your perspective. Dyed hair, odd hairstyles and styles of clothing may be part of his trying on new personae until he finds one that truly fits. Do your best to be open minded, without relinquishing your duties as a parent, and you and your child will be able to weather the harshest storms of the teen years.

Some of these are unavoidable occurrences, while others are foisted upon the baby by its parents. Of course, this is also a necessary part of development; otherwise, children would remain in diapers and drinking from bottles indefinitely. In order to help your child progress to the toddler stage, you can begin by starting small and working your way up. By the time your child is about 8 months old, you can begin introducing the sippy cup. Sippy cups are small, rounded, and usually have handles and a lid with a spout. The spout should be shaped in such a way that it fits in the child’s mouth comfortably. Once your child has become proficient at the sippy cup, you can use it for most feedings. Keep in mind that your child will still probably prefer his bottle for pre-night time and nap time feedings, as the sucking sensation helps him relax into sleep. However, continuing bottle feeding past a certain point is a sure recipe for tooth decay.

Once your child has been completely weaned from his bottle, you can begin preparations for toilet training. A child sized potty chair should be introduced as a fun new addition to his world. Be careful not to create any unpleasant associations with the potty chair, and reward your child for showing interest in it. You will know when your child is ready to start potty training when he tells you; this can be by his interest in your bathroom habits, a disdain for wet or soiled diapers or his ability to tell you when he has just gone. From notifications after the fact, encourage your child to tell you when he is getting ready to go, or when he feels it happening. In this way, you can introduce the idea of going to the potty instead of in his diapers.

It’s no secret that there is a lack of funding for education. Teachers aren’t paid enough, there isn’t enough money to pay for necessary supplies, and many classrooms lack the technology needed to prepare students of today for their future, which is especially essential for students who also lack this technology in their homes. So how can teachers and parents get funding to pay for these supplies— whether it’s paint and crayons or laptops and SmartBoards? The answer comes to crowd funding.

Crowd funding, which comes from the same idea as crowdsourcing, is the idea that if you can get one person to donate just $10, and you can find 99 other people also willing to donate, then you could raise $1,000. It adds up! These fundraising efforts are done online with the use of websites designed to receive donations. Sometimes these fundraisers are done with sites specifically created for teachers trying to raise money for a specific project, and sometimes they’re done through general fundraising sites.

There is a lot of power in the idea of using online mediums to raise money. Through the use of crowd funding, teachers can solicit funds for a need that is specific to their classrooms. For example, one teacher decided that the seats in her classroom were too hard for her second grade students. She wanted to replace them all with chairs that resembled exercise balls, except these balls were flat on the bottom so that they didn’t roll around. Instead of hard seats, her students would be able to bounce up and down, which would help control the “wiggles.” The school didn’t have the money for it, so she used an online site asking people to donate to the cause. She was able to raise enough money to have every chair in her classroom replaced.

Something so simple, yet it had a great impact. Think what you could do with online fundraising!

There is very little in the world that is quite as distressing to new parents as the sound of their children crying. However, newborns have no other way to communicate, so crying will quickly become a common event in the lives of new parents. There are several reasons why babies cry; learning each of these and identifying the source of your baby’s discontent will help you learn his or her specific cries for each type of issue. Most babies will cry differently when hungry, when irritated and when they need to be changed. You will soon learn what these sound like and will be able to recognize them easily.

When your baby is crying, especially within the first few months, hunger is the most likely culprit. In addition to crying, your child may be mouthing his own fist or turning his head to the nearest object and nuzzling it. If he has fed recently and still appears to be hungry, he may need to have some very watered-down cereal added to his diet. Check with his pediatrician if this is advisable for your baby. The need to have his diaper changed is the next most likely suspect. Some babies will cry almost immediately after soiling a diaper, while others may not be too bothered until the related sensations become uncomfortable.

Your baby will also cry when he is tired. It is a common misconception that babies will sleep when they need to. Unfortunately, it is easy for new parents to allow a baby to become overstimulated, which will cause him to have trouble unwinding and drifting off to sleep. You should have a quiet area for your baby where you can sit and hold him without bright lights, noise or other voices. That should allow the baby to relax enough in order to fall asleep. One other crying reason is discomfort; if nothing else is working, check for a temperature, rash or a need to burp.

An addiction can become an extremely difficult struggle in someone’s life. Certainly this rings true for teenagers, as they are indeed in a tough time developmentally and can be exposed to negative influences. As these can involve alcohol, smoking, and dangerous drugs, an addiction in a teenager can occur within any family.

Avoiding these influences is of course desirable. As a parent, having an open and honest relationship is a great start, where you can hopefully set a good example and be there should they need help. Within the context of a family these dangers may be undermined; however, it doesn’t always occur, unfortunately.

If you suspect that your teenager may be dealing with some type of addiction, taking action is essential. It doesn’t matter which stage the addiction—if there is an addiction—is in; getting help is a must for the well-being of your child.

Talking to your child is one step. This can have varying levels of success and you might need to be a judge regarding how your child reacts, in terms of telling the truth or speaking about it at all. Taking your child to a mental health professional, or even seeing one yourself in the beginning to talk about your concerns, is also a good idea. If you have contact to individuals that are close to your child, then take advantage of them; do what you can to get to the root of the situation.

In some situations action may need to be taken. There are valuable rehabilitation centers that can help treat your child before it is too late. You could consult one, such as MichaelsHouse.com, for instance. Whether or not your child actually has an addiction, take whatever steps necessary to help you teenager through his or her difficulties. Consult professional help immediately if needed.

It is important to keep in mind that every experience for your child is a new experience, and never again will your child experience this type of height and weight gain. There are a number of milestones that you can be prepared for as your child makes his way through his first year of life. During the first month, your baby will be mainly reacting to stimulus; crying when he is uncomfortable and eating when hungry. He may be able to lift his head up while lying on his stomach. Within the next two months, he will probably begin to recognize your face and voice, and smile when smiled at. By the time he reaches six or seven months of age, he will probably be able to sit up, roll over and may even begin to crawl. Most items and objects will be explored by mouthing them.

The last five months or so of the baby’s first year will show an astonishing amount of development in most children. Your child will probably be able to move into a sitting position on his own, crawl very quickly and may even stand or take a few steps with assistance. He has learned his first few words and can identify his parents. He may be developing anxiety around strangers, but may also be very curious about new people in his world. He is eating semi-solid foods like mashed or pureed fruits and vegetables, cereal and even well-cooked eggs or pasta. Nearly everything he grasps will be headed toward his mouth, so you will need to be extra carefully concerning small items left where he can reach them. You baby should be allowed to explore his world as much as possible and will benefit most from your playing with, talking and reading to him.

It’s that time of the year again! Seems like each year the holidays pop up quicker. Sometimes its hard to get into the holiday spirit, but once you are, you will have a lot more fun. Take advantage of school vacations and enjoy the holidays.

Attend school concerts

If your children are in school, it is very likely that they will be putting on a holiday show. Sitting in a decorated auditorium, or even just a classroom, and listening to children sing classic holiday songs is a great way to ease into the holiday spirit. Take it a step further and dress in your favorite holiday sweater and cute holiday earrings to really bring out the spirit in you.

Attend craft and vendor fairs

This time of the year is famous for church and school craft fairs. People selling products know that the holiday season is the most profitable season of the year. Many craft fair venues pipe in holiday music to delight shoppers, while offering hot chocolate and other wintertime treats to appeal to the young and the young at heart. Unfortunately, you probably won’t be able to get a GMAT class online here.

Tune in to Holiday Songs

Listening to holiday tunes is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Find the holiday station on the car radio and program it in for the month. Add some songs to a special holiday playlist and listen on your iPod. Better yet, brew some hot cocoa, turn off the TV, turn on the holiday music, and dance around the living room with the kids.

Deck the Halls, Early

Go head, put up all your holiday decorates now, even if it seems too early. Surrounding yourself and the family with colored lights and sparkling decorations is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Why wait, get in the spirit now by decorating now!

College seems like it’s a long way off when you have a baby in your arms, but as most parents will tell you, those little ones grow up faster than you could ever imagine. Today you’re writing thank you notes for baby presents, and tomorrow you will be filling out college financial aid forms. To make things easier, you might want to consider saving for your child’s college expenses as soon as possible. You don’t need to invest millions right off the bat. Just look into your options, and start watching your child’s college savings account grow.

Going to websites such as elearners.com gives you a glimpse into the world of college academia today. You can learn how much college costs so you know what to brace yourself for. Don’t forget to adjust for inflation as your child gets older. If you have more than five years before your child goes to college, consider investing in mutual funds since they provide the option for long-term growth. If you go for a 529 College Savings Plan, your investment is managed by a professional money manager. This might not be your best option, however, since you can only change fund allocations once a year. You might find yourself stuck with an investment you can’t change if the market is tanking.

If your child is within five years of attending college, scour through scholarship options thoroughly. You can get scholarships from clubs, for academic achievement, and even for sports performance. Find out about grant offerings, and get your financial aid papers into the college as soon as possible for optimal aid. Moving on to college is a major transition for students. It’s stressful both for the child and for parents. This stress can be greatly reduced with careful financial planning. It’s never too early to start saving for college, even if you only put away a few dollars at a time.

It is important to keep one thing in mind: all new parents are unsure of themselves and being scared is only natural. That having been said, there are ways that you can begin to prepare yourself for motherhood. The first thing you can do is to compile a list of supplies that all mothers should keep on hand, and make sure you have them where you can find them easily. These supplies include a thermometer, nasal aspirator, baby nail care kit, diaper rash cream and an over-the-counter infant fever reducing medicine. These are just the basics, but they will all be used often.

Most people will warn you to sleep while you can when you are expecting, and it is true that new mothers often suffer from a lack of sleep following the birth. However, you can and should always take advantage of the baby’s nap time and sleeping periods. It is much more important that you use that time to rest yourself than to clean your house or perform other household chores. You and your partner should establish a schedule for getting up with the baby at night and early in the morning. That will ensure that you aren’t both suffering from sleep deprivation on a daily basis.

There may be times when your baby cries, and you are unable to determine a reason or solution. While this can be distressing for new parents, it is not usually a cause for alarm. Your baby may be overly tired and having trouble winding down, he may have some gas in his tummy or may even just be overstimulated. Often when this happens, parents only make it worse by giving the baby more and more attention. If your baby’s crying has not responded to attempts to feed, change or cuddle, try holding the baby closely and removing bright lights and noise. This may help baby relax and drift off to sleep.

Many times, people will do research, like on the Wall Street Journal, on ways to keep their budgets intact. They may also research ways to stay afloat when there is a financial emergency. There are many things that you can do, to both negate a financial emergency, as well as keep going if there is one.

First, making sure that you have a savings account is important. Putting money away in case of an emergency can help divert one if it happens. If you have money put aside for this, you will find that it is not nearly as difficult to deal with. Many people find that putting away a little bit each paycheck is the best way to go. In some cases, you may even be able to set up your paycheck, if it is direct deposit, to be split between a savings account and your checking account. This way, you will never see the money go into your checking account, and therefore be less likely to spend it before it gets to the savings account.

If you do not have a savings account, and something comes up, short term loan companies can help you get through to the next paycheck. GreatPlainsLending can give you a short term loan to help pay for car repairs or any other emergency that may happen.

Keeping a budget can help in any financial situation, even if it is not an emergency. Understanding how to make and keep a budget is important. Knowing where your money is going on a regular basis can help you understand your spending habits, and change them if you feel that they need to be changed.

Finances can be a frustrating, difficult thing for many people to deal with. When emergency situations come up, they become even harder to deal with. Knowing your emergency plan is important.

Dealing with the death of a family pet is not easy for children; their memories of their once adorable puppy are often difficult to bear. Pets bring so much joy to children and the family. Breaking the news to children that the family pet has died is one of the harder discussions to have with a young child.

Loving Pets, Fun Memories and Pet Costumes

Becoming attached to the family pet is normal and is often experienced by all members of a family. Anyone whose long-loved pet has died knows that letting go of the memories of a beloved pet can be difficult. Pets are there for you through thick and thin. For a child, the pet may have been there in his toddler days, playing with him and protecting him. Each Halloween he may have dressed his dog in pet costumes and enjoyed watching everyone’s amusement at his cute doggie’s outfit. These memories all come to the surface when a child first learns that his pet has passed away.

Discussing the Passing of a Pet with a Child

Whether a pet’s passing is a result of a sudden accident or due to natural reasons such as aging, the discussion about the event is important for the child. It’s important for parents to share the news with the child as soon as possible. Some parents are inclined to tell a child that the pet has gone to sleep. It is better, however, to explain what is meant by sleep. Children need to understand that the pet is not coming back. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for them to come to terms with the loss of the pet. If any feelings of anger, guilt or sadness come to the surface, children should be encouraged to discuss these feelings. With time, the pain of the loss will decrease and the fond memories of the pet will remain.

Motherhood is full of surprises. What you don’t realize is that when a baby is delivered into your arms, you’re also handed a contract to accept and deal with unplanned events and situations. Not only will your new bundle of joy be a constant source of all things unanticipated, but she is also now under your care and protection which means that you need to deal with whatever life throws at you while providing and caring for your child.

All parents do the best they can, but life has long since reserved the right to set unforeseen obstacles in our paths. The car needing major repairs, a serious illness, unexpected bills, refrigerator stops working; these are all examples of unforeseen obstacles that must be dealt with. Dealing with them, however, can be difficult when faced with limited finances and the stresses of having to provide baby essentials such as formula or clothing for growing children.

In cases like this, many turn to relatives or parents for short-term financial support. Borrowing money from loved ones is an easy way to get the car fixed and buy formula for the baby. Trouble arises, however, when there are no parents to turn to or they are financially unable to help you. In cases like this, there are resources available to help. Services such as paydayone.com can help you out by lending you up to $1000.00.

The stresses of parenthood are enough; worrying how to juggle expenses is unnecessary if you utilize resources like paydayone.com responsibly. They’re meant to help you in the short term, they’re not a long term loan that you can pay back over time. In order to keep the interest payments of short term loans reasonable, you should make every effort to pay back the loan as quickly as possible. With a short term loan you can get past life’s hurdles and keep your kids healthy and happy at the same time.

Making your child understand the social skills is very important because this helps them to grow up as a responsible person. It also helps them to know how to behave in the society and how to deal with the people in the society. It helps the children to understand what he should do and what he should not. Building social skills in your child is not a very easy task and for some children it will take more time.

Socialization will help to improve your personality, mannerisms and social skills. It helps them to understand the concept of respecting elders and how to respect them. It also teaches you culture and makes everyone understand their roles and responsibilities to be followed in the society. It is the duty of the parents and the teachers to make children understand the value of social skills and need of socialization. Government has come up with a plan that socialization should be included in the curriculum. Schools also have started to teach children about socialization and needs of it.

First step to socialize your children is to allow them to go and play with their friends outside your house. This will help them to meet many children from different culture and backgrounds. They will interact with people of different age .They will start adjusting and sharing their games or toys with their friends. This will create a positive effect on your child. Children will start interacting with more people and will not feel out of place when they are put to new surroundings. They will easily get adjusted to the new people and surrounding due their good socializing behavior.

There are many children who always stay back at home and feel shy to face strangers. Children continuing with this condition will have to face many bad experiences in their future life. Parents of such children should take an initiative to bring their children out of this condition.

With healthy births being much more the norm than the exception during this period in time, it is easy to see the correlation between the high standards of infant and mother health that we have come to expect and the modern, updated pregnancy information that is plentiful, especially on the web. Women today empower themselves with the information they need to be and do the best they can for themselves and their unborn children. With medical, nutritional and planning information available with a few strokes of the keyboard, it is easier than ever to get the information you need.

Many women, when they first become pregnant and begin to do some research on the topic, are surprised to learn about all of the dietary restrictions and needs that a new mother needs to be aware of. While most people know that during gestation, alcohol is not advised and prenatal vitamins are recommended, it goes much farther than that. Even getting a cold can become extremely complicated when you are trying to find some medicinal relief that will help you to get a decent night’s sleep while also making sure what you have in your medicine cabinet is safe for your little bundle. Fortunately, there are places online where you can go to find the pregnancy information you need to keep you healthy and your baby safe.

Women are also often shocked to experience some of the surprising symptoms that pregnancy bestows. While some are just unexpected, others can be quite embarrassing and cause a bit of alarm. Being able to turn to an online community for support allows you to discuss your experience anonymously and get the reassurance you need… that it is all part of the magic that comes with carrying a child. Preparing yourself with the information you need helps you to be the best mom you can be, giving you and your child a huge advantage in life.

Separation anxiety is a very normal condition developed in the small children which makes them upset when they are separated from their parents or from any of their most loved ones. This condition is mainly seen in small babies and school going children. Children with this condition often show a refusal to stay away from their parents. This should be identified and treated in the initial stage. The symptoms of this disorder are dizziness, headaches, feeling very feverish, always in a sad mood.

Children who are less than a year always get very attached to their parents or dear ones at home. Reason for such a good attachment is that they get full attention, love and care from all these people. Children who are being sent to day cares or to the schools for the very first time often have this problem.

They miss their parents and feel that their parents have gone somewhere from very far. For some kids this condition will stay only for some week and later on they will get adjusted to it. But for some kids it will be prolonged for many weeks and this should be taken care properly. Many researchers have proved that such anxiety problem in younger age can badly affect the kids in their future part of the life.

To overcome this condition parents can make sure that the child is been sent to a good place. A place where the baby will surrounded with some good people and a place which will make the baby comfortable. Make the duration less when you are leaving the baby away for the first time. Then gradually increase the time. Once the child starts understanding that their parents or people who are very special to them will come back and be with them will make the child feel that this world is a safe place to live.

Most children’s bedrooms look like a tornado just went through it. When you open the door and see the mess you have several options: leave it as is, clean it yourself, or have your child clean up their own mess. If you leave it as it is, it will never get clean and the room is left as a hazardous tornado trail. If you clean it yourself, yes, it will get done, but your child will expect you to clean up after every mess. If you have your child clean it themselves, it not only will get done, but they will learn responsibility.

When you need your child to clean their room, ask politely. If you use a calm tone with them, they will be more willing to agree with what you say. If they refuse, tell them that you are the parent. Don’t allow them to continue the activity they are in the middle of, but don’t be violent.

Once they are in their room, don’t just leave them. If you are there with them, they will be more willing to clean. You can help, but don’t do it yourself.

Make cleaning fun. For example, play a game that just requires talking so neither of you are distracted from cleaning, or sing a song. If you can make cleaning fun, they will learn that cleaning isn’t a bad thing.

Offer a reward if the room becomes clean and follow through with it. If they don’t clean the room, don’t reward them or they will think that not cleaning their room is okay. If they do clean their room, make sure you reward them, or they will be less willing to clean it next time.

There is a lot more you can do to get your child to clean their room. Try to teach them that cleaning their room is their responsibility and not yours. Don’t yell at them to get your point across.

It is absolutely heart wrenching to see someone you love fight with an addiction. Whether it’s drugs, alcohol, or any other type of addiction, it’s hard to know when to step in and help your loved ones. Here’s a few tips to help you and those you love along your journey to clean living.

Look for Signs

There are certain signs and signals that you can look for in yourself and your loved ones that will let you know they have a substance abuse problem. First, substance abuse starts with simple curiosity. You try a drug or a drink a couple of times, but you aren’t completely dependent on it. If you are able to recognize the disease in this stage, you may only need an intervention to stop the progression of the addiction. If it progresses on to abuse, you will start to notice relationship problems, a change in personality, or neglecting responsibilities that you normally had no problem with. After that, the disease progresses into full-fledged addiction. Here, you will notice you or your loved ones lives revolving around using the drug, you will use to relieve withdrawal symptoms, and do anything to get your hands on your next fix. At this point, the best thing you could do is to check into a rehab facility.

What’s Available

One of the best things you can do for an addict is to take them to a drug abuse rehab facility. There, they will be pulled away from all chances of using again. Plus, they will also be able to safely come down off their drug and alcohol addictions. The body will go through not only mental, but physical withdrawals as well. It’s best that this be done in the care of a medical professional that specializes in substance abuse. Whatever step you take to try and stop an addiction is a step in the right direction.

There is a lot of responsibility that comes with being a parent. When you become a parent, you don’t only take on the role of being the authority figure, you also become an educator, chef, taxi driver, maid, etc. Along with these responsibilities, you have to find a way to make money to pay for your children. We all know that having a job and children can be a hassle, so what can you do to make it less of a hassle?

There are many options and choices in jobs. When you are looking for a job while being a parent, it can be difficult, but it can be done. Once your children begin school it is much easier to find a job that you can work while your children are in school rather than trying to have a job and take care of them at the same time, but when they haven’t started school yet, that’s a different story.

One option is to find a job close to home. This will not only cut down on travel time and expenses, but it will cut down on the money required to pay the babysitter and increase the amount of time you get to spend with your children.

You can try finding a job in which you can work from home. This may take training, but you will be able to stay home with your children. The negative to this idea is that it won’t seem like you’re doing as much work because you’re also taking care of your children. The positives include that you get to spend more time with your children, and you don’t have to pay for a babysitter.

Sometimes, you can choose to not work at all. This is only a good idea if your spouse makes enough money to support the family. Once your children go back to school you can go back into the workfield.

Sometimes the condition is made fun of with images of crying mothers over Kodak commercials or their long faces staring out the window next to the baby’s crib as you hear the mourning music in the background. It’s sad and miserable, but you shake your head in a sort of comedic way, thinking it’s nothing serious or fatal, this thing called the “baby blues.”

But the truth is it’s more than fatal. Postpartum depression is nothing to laugh about.

Also called “postnatal depression,” the condition is a form of clinical depression that usually is present among women after childbirth, hence the nickname “baby blues.” Symptoms include fatigue, random sorrow, erratic sleeping and eating patterns, reduced libido, sobbing, anxiety, and irritability. At first glance, you’d think this isn’t seriously fatal at all. In fact, medication and/or therapy would help tremendously (point of fact, it does). But you have to understand the true dark nature of this depression.

Not only can postpartum depression lead to both suicide and homicide, it can lead to alcohol and drug abuse in the long run. Social class also plays an effective role on the onset of the baby blues; but when you think about it, that could also determine that same severity of suicide/homicide and drug/alcohol abuse toward any individual. Not something anyone would think about when in the thick of a depression session involving a baby. Look years from the moment of childbirth, and you’d be surprised to see that same mother practically dying from cocaine or heroin abuse juiced up with booze. It’s not a wonderful sight to see.

If you’re suffering from postpartum depression, it is most definitely your responsibility to help yourself by doing the necessary research for rehab centers in your area through the site Rehab-International.org. Your life matters. So take charge of it. Don’t let the consequences of the baby blues get the best of you.

Any parent that has experienced their child moving out of the house knows it feels like the end of the world. You have lived practically the last 20 years with your child and suddenly they are moving away to begin a new life. Some children stay close home while others travel to other states or countries. What can you do to keep in touch with your child and make you feel as if they are closer to home?

Talk to your child often, but not too often. Call them only once or twice a week. You want to give them their freedom. You don’t want them to become annoyed with you and ignore your phone calls. This new life is exciting for them and they don’t necessarily want their parents talking to them every day. If they ask you to call more, that’s perfectly fine, but if they need to talk to you, they will most likely call you first.

The same goes for emailing and sending cards. Don’t do this too often or they may begin to ignore you, but contact them just enough so that you both know what’s going on in each other’s lives and that you can stay in touch.

Send them gifts. Especially when your child is at college, they will need certain items such as toiletries and snacks. If you are able to send a box every now and then, it will cut down on their costs and they will be more likely to contact you to thank you, which you can then take time to talk to them about how they’re doing.

Help them with expenses while traveling home. If they need to buy a plane ticket to visit for the holidays, try offering to pay for part of it. Most people that just move out of their parents’ house don’t have much money. If they don’t have the money to travel back home, they won’t come back.

With so much responsibility, being a mom can be stressful. Most mothers say they aren’t just a mom; they’re a chef, taxi driver, maid, etc. After a long days work of being a mother, how do you just relax?

Don’t be afraid to go out with the girls. Hire a babysitter for the night and have a little time to yourself. You don’t even have to do something that costs money. Go over to a friend’s and play a few games and just relax. This is time where you can just relax and don’t have to worry about other things.

If all your friends are busy, just pop in a movie. It’s okay to stay up late every now and then. Once your children go to bed, dig out your favorite movie and watch it. This will help you forget about what you’re stressing over for a while and you will be able to simply relax.

Go on a date. Find a time that you and your husband both have free. Don’t be afraid to spend a little more than usual now and then. Sometimes you have to treat yourself to something special. A night out will give you two a chance to talk and will relieve some of your stress and will help your husband relax, too.

For a day when your whole family is free, plan a trip to the beach or somewhere fun. This won’t only help you relax, but the rest of your family will appreciate it, also. Even if not everyone can make it, plan to take half the family one weekend and the other half the next.

Being a mother is hard work, but you can do plenty to relax. Taking time out here and there to relax is not a bad thing. It’s perfectly okay to need a break sometimes and to take advantage of the little bit of free time you might have.

Learning to budget and finance in this tough economy is not easy. While many people are losing their jobs, living off of savings and using credit cards right an left it makes for a very murky situation. However, this tough time can be a great learning opportunity for children. Many parents are using their current situation to explain to children about budgeting and financing.

One of the first lessons parents are teaching their children is that no matter what a given financial situation is there is always a way to help yourself out of it. As long as you do not wait until the last minute there is always hope. Parents are explaining to their children how they lost their jobs, are using credit cards and got underwater with their debts. Instead of panicking like many people, these parents are using a debt consolidation service. This service will consolidate all the bills and debts and make it so that the bills only need to be paid once. While it might not be an ideal situation it allows children to learn about the importance of saving and budgeting so they do not get in that situation but it also teaches them if they do fall into that situation there is always help out there.

Another great lesson parents are teaching their children is the importance of a family budget and sticking to it. Many people got into debt and financial troubles because they overspent and did not budget themselves. Teaching children at a young age by giving them an allowance and forcing them to stick to it will teach children that there are financial boundaries and there is no way around them should you spend the money.

As a parent you hold your children’s future in your hands. It is important for you to give them the tools and skills to have a successful and bright financial future by teaching them about budgeting and financing at a young age.

No matter how bad you want it, you will never fully understand your children. You can do all you can but you will never see into their world or their minds. Even if you can’t completely understand your children, there is plenty you can do to understand them better.

The best way into your child’s mind is to become their friend. This connection should be a two way road. Talk to your child often so they feel comfortable around you. The more you talk to them, the more you will get to know their personality. It doesn’t have to be about anything huge, just simple. Once you begin talking more and more you can talk about bigger things.

Another way to become your child’s friend is to spend more time with them. Play games or go out when you know they aren’t busy. Arrange short trips on the weekends that they will want to be a part of. These activities will give you time to talk to one another and get to know each other better.

Be there for your child when they need you. Let them know that you can be their shoulder to cry on. They will trust you and open up to you. If they know they can turn to you, they will, and you will get to know their problems and fears better. When they do open up to you, be open-minded and don’t freak out at what they reveal to you. You want them to confide in you again.

You don’t want to be too pushy of a parent; let your child have their freedom. When you plan activities, work around their schedule with their school activities and friends. Never read their diary. A diary is very private and will not help you in getting to know your child, it will just create feelings of tension and they will not trust you.

Having children makes it difficult to go out and have a parents night out. To be able to go out and enjoy some alone time, one of the most important things you will need to do is to find a quality and responsible babysitter for hire. Finding a babysitter is not an easy thing to do, especially if you are new to an area. Fortunately there are some ways to make your babysitter search a little easier.

One of the first things you can do is to ask around your neighborhood. You can talk to friends, neighbors or even teachers at the local high school. Other common places to ask about babysitters is through your local church or congregation. Chances are between all these people one of them will come up with a babysitter for you to hire.

Another way to find a good babysitter is to place an ad in your local newspaper or on craigslist. You can also advertise in your local supermarket, high school, library or church. When placing an ad you need to remember to explain exactly what you are looking for in a babysitter as this will save you and the applicants some time and trouble. In your ad you should include the requirements that you are looking for such as age and whether you want a male or female, and someone with their own car.

Whether you get a response from your babysitting ad or a recommendation from a friend or family member you should then set up an interview with the candidates you like. Make sure that you prepare all the questions that you want to ask ahead of time so you get all the information you want and the interview goes smoothly. Commonly asked questions include qualifications, experience and references. You may even want to ask how they would react to certain situations should the situation arise.

The world is getting more and more complicated and that rings especially true for kids growing up today. Kids are facing issues that no one could have anticipated a generation ago. What does stay true from generation to generation is parents’ desire for their kids to be successful in all areas of life and for them to have every opportunity possible. Parents also want to be close to their kids and for them to be able to reach out to parents for guidance but it is difficult for that to happen when kids feel like their parents don’t understand or care where they are coming from. Accepting them for who they are and how they want to express themselves, especially through fashion, can go a long way towards creating goodwill between you.

Teaching your kids self assuredness can begin by showing them how to carry and present themselves. Good posture and hygiene communicate to the outside world that you care about yourself. Showing your kids what kinds of clothes, like Rocawear, work well to highlight their best features is a way of showing them self care and respect. Showing respect for their choices, even if you have other preferences, lets them know you respect them and their ability to make choices for themselves. When you teach them how to respect themselves, they will in turn show others respect and begin life-long habits that bolster positive relationships with others. This can serve them extraordinarily well in interpersonal relationships as well as professional ones.

When your children feel as though you care about what is happening in their life and will help them in ways you can, they will feel closer to you and are more likely to confide in you. Shopping for Rocawear fashions can be a lot of fun for you both. Your kid will know that you are giving them every opportunity to be their best and to feel comfortable with who they are.

Have you ever taken a moment to look at the price of some of the children’s programs out there? Depending upon the type of children’s program the tuition and fees can cost anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, not ever parent has the money and resources to sign their children up for these programs. Luckily, there are cost effective children’s programs that cost virtually nothing to take part in. The key is finding out where these programs are so you can take advantage of them. Here is a look at some of the low cost children’s programs that are available for you and your child.

Library Story Hour. Libraries all over the country offer several story hour programs. These programs are a great way for your child to be introduced to others, learn how to follow directions and even introduce them to reading. Most libraries offer story hours for free or a very low cost (around $5 to $30 dollars). All that is required to sign up for story hours is that you and your family have to be a member of the library.

YMCA. The YMCA offers great children programs from sports teams, art programs and swimming lessons. There might be a fee to join the YMCA but for those that cannot afford it there are many scholarship programs or sliding scale opportunities that allow you to sign up for the YMCA at a fee that is suitable for you.

Community Events. Businesses and governments all over the United States like to offer tons of children’s programs throughout the year. These programs can range from a simple community event that allows children to tour the fire station to arts and craft programs. These programs are usually free to the public and are a great way to introduce your children to new experiences.

For many new mothers or those women who are having to return to the workforce because of economic or other reasons and have small children, leaving your child is difficult. However, if you take advantage of the resources through Canada 411, you will find that just a quick search will help you narrow down which daycare centers are closest to your job or home.

In addition, you can also find out the services offeredand the day center’s hours of operation, along with other information, because if the daycare service has a website, Canada 411 will provide that. You can find out such things as the cost, the number of meals and snacks served, and what types of programs will be offered for the children.

If you have a preference as to the type of daycare service offered; for example, if you want a daycare service that is offered by those with whom you share the same religious beliefs, you can find this on Canada 411. You can also find those that are offered through national and international programs.

Even if there is no website, Canada 411will be able to find contact information. That way, you can call and arrange a visit before you decide if that daycare service is the best one for your child. That’s the beauty of Canada 411. If you don’t like the first daycare service you try, you have plenty of others to consider. Just continue searching and visting until you find one that offers your child the type of day care you are looking for while youwork.

It’s stressful being a mom, even if you don’t work, and if you do, the stress is doubled. Again, worrying about who’s taking care of your child makes it difficult, if not impossible, to concentrate on a job.But if you take advantage of the listingsCanada 411, however, you will have one less thing to worry about.

Every mother would love to have the opportunity to stay at home with their child. Unfortunately, with the economy in the shape that it is in families cannot afford to have one adult stay at home at all times. This has caused many mothers to enter the workforce. However, what if there was a way that mothers could combine staying at home with the workforce? There is and thousands of mothers are taking advantage of these great opportunities.

The Internet has provided many mothers with the chance to work from home. This allows mothers all over the world to stay at home and earn extra income in the meantime. With this option there is no missing out on those special moments in your child’s life and you won’t have to worry about financial matters because you are working at the same time.

There are thousands of work at home opportunities that are available to mothers. Here is a look at some of the most common type of work at home opportunities.

Writing. There are hundreds of places online that will pay people to write articles, website content and blog posts. If you have the ability to be creative, follow directions and write you’d be able to become a freelance writer.

Customer Service Reps. Companies have started to outsource their customer service reps. Instead of having a central call center the customers who call the customer service reps call a central number that directs the call to one of the many freelance customer service reps.

Every mother has a fear of leaving their child with someone that they don’t know. This can be why many mothers are afraid to leave their child with a babysitter. However, leaving a child with a babysitter not only gives mothers a bit of freedom but it allows your child to become accustomed to other people. It is recommended if you have a concern regarding leaving your child with a babysitter that you schedule an interview with them. Here are some things you should consider talking about when you interview your next babysitter. These questions will allow you to get an idea of the babysitter’s personality and ability.

Qualifications. It is important to know what qualifications your babysitter has to babysit. Make sure you ask them about previous babysitting jobs, how long they held the position and if they have any siblings or children of their own.

Certifications. Parents who are afraid of leaving their children with babysitters often feel better knowing that their babysitter is equipped to handle any type of emergency. Make sure you ask them about what types of certifications they may hold. The most common type of certifications include CPR, first aid and infant CPR. Even if they say they hold these certifications it might be a good idea to ask for the certification card just in case.

References. Anyone can say whatever they want about themselves but references can help you get a review of the babysitter. Make sure you ask for references from past or present employers.

Values. Some parents put a lot of emphasis on the values of the babysitter. They want to know that when they are away the child is still be brought up with the same morals and values as the parent would offer. A good way to judge the values of a babysitter is to ask hypothetical situations as this will allow you to see how a babysitter would react during these times.

Having children can certainly help when it comes to tax refunds. Since the expenses of having and raising a child can be costly, including diapers, food and formula, clothing, and more, the government provides additional tax credits to parents. Generally, the largest benefits come after having the first child, but additional children continue to add credits to tax refunds, giving these parents a larger break come April. Depending on the tax bracket that individuals fit into, many can qualify for a $1,000 tax credit per child. According to the IRS in 2009, if income for a single person is less than $35,463, or for married people earning less than $40,463, a credit of up to $3,043 is given for one child. In addition, parents who work can also receive a credit of $600 to $1,050 for each child receiving care.

After the child is born, the IRS requires that the W-4 status be changed with the employer. In doing so, parents can start to notice an increase in the amount that is taken home, sometimes as much as $150 extra every month. Another way that single parents can receive higher refunds each year is to change the tax status to head of household after the birth, which will result in higher deductions. Contributing money each month to a Section 529 State Education Savings Account for children can also help to reduce the amount taken out in taxes from each paycheck. Any child that is claimed on the taxes must have been during the prior tax year. According to tax news, parents are required to note the social security number for all children claimed on the tax return, which can be applied for apply for at the same time a birth certificate is obtained at the hospital. Children can definitely help to boost the amount received from a tax return, and many parents don’t even know the benefits that will come to them when taxes are filed.

As if being a single parent isn’t hard enough, sometimes life requires us to pick up our life, our children’s lives and move to a new city. This can be a very difficult thing to do when you aren’t familiar with the area you’re moving to. There are many single parents that move to Seattle every year and they all share the same concerns when they move. However, there are many important issues that get overlooked by single parents when they move to a new city such as Seattle. Below you will find the important things that you need to consider if you are a single parent facing a move to a new city.

One of the first things that needs to be considered when you move to a new city as a single parent is the neighborhood where you will be living. You need to take the time to investigate the various Seattle neighborhoods and select one that you feel is safe for your children, has a good school system and is preferably close to your job. These three things, in this order, should be your criteria when searching for apartments for rent in Seattle.

Once you have found a neighborhood that you feel is safe for your children, will give them the education they deserve and isn’t too far from your job, it’s time to begin facing another important issue. You and your children need to make friends in the area. To do this, it’s a good idea to get involved in a local church, get a membership to the Y.M.C.A. (or another good community center) and encourage your children to sign-up for extracurricular activities involving other children their age. It’s important that you don’t allow your children to isolate themselves. Help them get involved in the community and make new friends.

Moving to the city as a single parent is a big decision. Each area of the country is unique, but in all situations, city life requires planning. Knowing the safest places to live and finding the best schools for your kids will make a difference in your day to day life. As you work through the list of ads of available places, consider the bigger picture. Different factors will matter when it comes to where you live. So, be sure to take into consideration the options that are available to you from the point of view of a parent.

As you think about where you will live, consider the neighborhoods and the overall quality of life in the city. Apartments for rent in Seattle are readily available, but some areas, such as the heart of downtown, are less likely to be suitable options for families with young children. Look for areas that offer the types of accommodations you need and are within your budget. Factors like the size of the home, the location, and the overall style do make a difference. Are there playgrounds in the area? What are the schools like in the area?

When moving to the city for the first time, it pays to get familiar with the urban landscape. Spend time touring it. Stay at a hotel for a few days and explore the various neighborhoods. Look at factors such as where the grocery stores are located and if the property offers safety features for you and your child. In addition to these factors, you also need to take into consideration the facility’s amenities. Things like swimming pools and on-site playgrounds may make living in the city more enjoyable for your children. The more you know about the location, the better your chances will be of finding the ideal home.

Children who are addicted to drugs or alcohol can be found in any home, no matter how affluent or impoverished. There are few things more difficult for parents to deal with than a child who may have an addiction. Fear, panic and guilt are all emotions associated with parents of children with addictions, but before you succumb to a confrontation with your child, there are a few things to consider.

Be sure there is an addiction problem before committing to decisions! When children are at school for most of the day, it can become very easy for parents to lose track of their kids and who they’re hanging out with. Being wary of potential addiction warning signs, such as a sudden drop in grades, cagey behavior, unwilling to discuss activities, lack of appetite and unexplained behavior, can all be indicators of a drug or alcohol addiction.

Before you confront your child about the possibility of an addiction, consider seeking professional help to learn how to approach your child. By directly confronting children you may just push them away and deeper into their addiction. Ignoring the problem won’t help either; an addiction won’t go away on its own.

Be wary of your child making advances to you for help. Wanting to linger over dinner, looking like she wants to say something but doesn’t, or engaging in spontaneous topics of discussion can all be signs that he’s reaching out for help. If you notice this kind of behavior suggest that you go with them to talk to a therapist. Websites such as TheCyn.com can also offer great advice on how to deal with children who are suspected of having addiction issues.

Children with addictions cannot be fully healed without professional help. Always consult the school therapist, family doctor or a therapist specializing in childhood addictions.

For a quick and easy way to obtain cash many people consider getting a payday loan. Sometimes people need money to cover a medical bill that came unexpectedly. It could also help someone that is in need of extra money for covering expenses that come up during the holidays. During the holidays there is a need to be able to pay your bills and be able to give your kids a special holiday. This is where a payday loan will come in handy. It could save you from paying fees when a bill is late or a checking account would otherwise be overdrawn because of the holidays.

These no fax payday loans have a fairly high approval rate and can ease some of the financial pressure a person may experience. They are very easy to apply for and involve a little amount of paperwork. The money can be sent to your bank account within a short time after approval. This will help to be able to have right away. Applying on a weekday morning is the perfect time to apply and has a greater chance of getting your cash quicker. However, sometimes a bank may not allow access to the money until the next business day. This will depend upon their policy regarding deposits.

All that you need to be able to apply for a no fax payday loan is a job, proof that you have a steady source of income, phone, good standing checking account, and 18 years old or older. Depending on what state you reside in will help determine how much you may be eligible to borrow. This could be anywhere from $100 to $1000 but if you have a good payment history it could go up. The costs and payment options will vary for each state.

Today’s independent living communities for those in the advanced years of their lives are much different than those in the past. One reason for this is that health care has progressed greatly. Another is that people take better care of themselves than they used to. Also, as a society, we do not think that seniors are helpless to care for themselves and perform day to day activities. These days people are more active than ever and more active later and later into life.

So why might someone who is active, independent and does not need much medical care on a daily basis, choose to live in one of the modern retirement communities? There are a number of factors. Some may no longer want the hassle of maintaining a home. And if they are still married, these couples can now move into independent living facility together. With a little research it is easy to find a community with garden homes or apartments built for couples. Many communities have amenities that would make a vacation resort green with envy. They often provide pools, fitness studios, a full slate of activities and entertainment. All of this usually comes at a cost that is less than or equal to a nice apartment complex.

Another great benefit for those who are no longer married is the companionship. Many seniors find themselves alone as they have lost all their friends and sometimes their family as well. A facility like this will introduce them to others and provide them with opportunities to socialize and make new friendships. And because many retirement facilities are a part of a larger complex of facilities, you can transition to an assisted living and nursing home facility when the time comes. Overall, living in one of these independent senior living facilities is a great option for the active senior.

Credit cards have to be the number one reason that people from all walks of life get into trouble financially. Credit cards control you and eat up your funds with late fees, interest fees and overdraft fees. It never fails to amaze me how many young adults are lured into credit cards and irresponsible fiscal management and yet they are warned not to drink or smoke. In my mind a credit card is as dangerous as drunk teenager.

It should comesas no surprise then, that I do not have a credit card. I use a Vision Prepaid Card. I have found this to be the answer in today’s hectic world to stay in control of my finances. There are no interest fees, late payment fees or awkward calls all day and every day reminding you to pay your account. Yes – I have been there and it is a never ending spiral into hell and beyond.

Now, with a prepaid card, I make all my payments with it and if I cannot afford something, I save until I can afford it. Strangely enough this is not that difficult as I am not spending as much on bank charges and credit card fees. I simple reload my card online when I need to add funds and off I go. I never have a card declined because I always know exactly what is available. No surprises, no hidden fees!

This financial flexibility has set me free. Managing finances has never been easier or simpler. When you finances are under control you own your life, not your credit card.

In the never ending lists of “two kinds of people in this world,” another entry would be those who balance their checkbooks and those who don’t. Balancing a checkbook utilizes basic math, but it’s also about keeping track of money going out and money coming in. These are the building blocks of maintaining financial security. Isn’t that what we want to be teaching our kids? An effective tool that can be provided to children to learn about living within a budget is giving them with a prepaid credit card. By having a fixed amount of credit attached to a specific card a teen can be shown how to track their purchases and their available credit. Those are two important factors to understand for a future of balancing checkbooks.

A prepaid credit card let the buyer determine the amount of credit. A user can make any type of purchase as long as they stay within that credit limit. When a teen uses this type of credit card, they can start to form the habit of checking balances before every purchase. They will need to know how much credit they have before they can buy something. Now, if you can find a way to make keeping track of these credit balances fun and practical the battle is won!

One way is to find a user-friendly accounting software program. Since the average teen spends plenty of time on their laptops, adding a new “app” won’t be that foreign to them. You could even make providing a prepaid credit card conditional based on the use of a budget program. Allowing a teen to track their purchases over the course of time will show them exactly how they are spending their money. As they become familiar with the concept of budgeting, they will surely benefit when they start working on their own. It could be an eye-opening experience!

Gone are the days when you can interest the kids in a family game of “Go Fish” or “Spite and Malice”. The truth is that kids today have too many techno gadgets to be bothered playing old childhood games with their parents.

Getting quality time with your kids is important and they need to put down the Ipod and Wii games once in a while and join in family activities. If you cannot interest them in Go Fish, why not try something new and introduce a poker night. You can get decent poker tables on line and they even have spill proof drink holders. The poker tables are attractive additions to basement games rooms and if you do not have a games room, they are also collapsible and can be stored when not in use.

Poker has become a very popular game both on and offline. Bringing this trend into your home as a family activity is fun and might be just the ticket to get your uncooperative teenager to join in the family fun. What about combining pizza night into poker night?

Playing more games at home with your family helps the family to interact and bond together and is cheaper than trying to find new places to visit to entertain them. Not only will you and your kids learn something new but you will find it an enjoyable pastime on those rainy days when you are at your wits end as to what to do with the children.

Juggling parenting duties can be quite a lot to deal with for those moms who work full-time jobs. Trying to manage a home, take kids to their various activities, cook, clean and work a job can eventually take a physical and mental toll on a person. By delegating certain responsibilities to other members of the family, moms can find a break and a much needed respite from the daily chores that forever awaits them.

The children can help with household chores on a daily basis. If they are old enough and mature enough to be trusted, allow them to do several things including dishwashing, taking out the garbage, light cooking and general cleaning. By spending a few minutes with them teaching them how to do these things right, you can free yourself to focus on other areas of responsibilities.

To keep the delegation list clear and everybody focused on what they need to do, create a poster board with columns that outline what each person’s duties are. You can also position a place on the board to be checked off as each duty is performed on a daily basis. Use a dry erase board with markers to make the list board low maintenance and reusable.

As the children become more efficient in completing their tasks, you can begin to add more responsibilities to their list as they are able to handle them. This frees up your duties even more, and gives the kids more experience in helping out around the house. Reward them when they do a good job with things like extra television time, extra outdoors playtime or even a sleepover for a consistent job well done! They will learn to associate hard work with reward, and also learn to appreciate consistency in their lives. You will be glad that you took the extra time out to train them as you enjoy your more stress-free life.

Why Newborn Babies Cry

Babies are probably some of the most complicated people there is; they often cry without any obvious reason (to us adults), and the things that we think should calm them sometimes don’t work. That is mainly because babies use crying as their method of communication. To adults, it sounds like a lot of annoying squalling, but to them they are simply trying to convey their feelings and get what they want. It is up to us as adults to interpret that communication by looking for signs and cues from the baby.

How Mom Can Help

When babies cry, it can get a mom frustrated and make her even want to cry! But actually, mom can help the baby adjust and be comforted more often than she thinks. By observing the baby’s body language and crying tones, she may be able to determine why he may be so unhappy.

- Changing the baby’s diaper often can help them stay calm. Although it is normal to wait until there’s a "reason" to change his diaper, being proactive can help. By being on a routine schedule, you can avoid any moments of discomfort.

- Routine, routine, routine. Babies thrive off of them, and establishing one for the little person can make them a happy baby later on. After they’ve been on a set schedule for some time, their bodies adjust and they look forward to the predictability in their lives.

- Give the baby lots of physical time. This includes playtime, cuddle time and eye contact. They are growing and developing little people who need that physical contact in order to thrive.

Babies are not difficult at all, but learning their cues can be challenging. By spending time with the baby, watching, holding and coddling him, you’ll learn his natural behavior and what to do to make him feel good.

Your little ones do grow up fast! It seems like only yesterday they were playing with their toy trucks and baby dolls, and already they’re talking to you about boyfriends, girlfriends and dating. Where did the time go?!

Are They Ready to Date?

Every parent worries and wonders if they’re teenager is actually ready to start dating. There is a lot of concern of course when this stage comes around, but only the parents know for sure if they’re child is ready for the dating world.

- Is she/he mature enough to start dating?

- Do they fully understand the "facts of life" and how their actions are consequential?

- Do the parents know the teens boyfriend/girlfriend well enough to trust them alone?

- Does the teen understand the danger in mixing alcohol and driving?

Give Them the Dating Rules

Just like they got the rules when they were going to sleep-overs or parties, you should still give them the rules for the dating scene. Rules vary depending on what works for your household, but some things are standard:

- Make sure they understand that there is to be no drinking and driving, especially if they’re an older age and have access to both of those

- Make sure they have cash with them in case of emergencies. They need enough to get transportation back home in case there’s car trouble, accidents, etc.

- Establish a curfew time for them, especially if they’re new to dating. Set the time according to their age and maturity level. Make it clear that there are consequences if the curfew is broken.

Just Have Fun!

Yes, parents do stress over their child and dating, but try to relax and encourage your teen to have fun and enjoy themselves. This time of life is very special, and you want to make sure they have a great time.

Kids are under stress too, just like adults. They worry about school, friends, fitting in and a host of other issues that most time adults aren’t even aware of. Their stress can manifest in many ways, even similar to adults, with episodes of depression, over-eating, sleeping too much (or too little) and general moodiness. The stress they feel sometimes can be as every bit overwhelming as adults. Helping them to find coping mechanisms to manage their stress can be a big reliever for them AND their parents

Most of the time, kids don’t know what to do to manage their stress, because they’re not as experienced in dealing with it as adults are. Since this is the case, the adult has to help them find coping measures that suits them. Some ideas include:

- Enrolling them in a sports activity. Sports and physical exertion is a great way to channel the stresses they feel as kids, and also a great way to stay active and in shape.

- Listening and talking about it with them can also help tremendously. Many times, children benefit by just having a listening ear and someone to talk to. You can help them work through their problems by giving them alternate solutions, but allowing them to make the decision.

- Help them to refocus their energy away from a negative coping mechanism (eating, lashing out), by offering other fun, less intense alternatives. Help them plant and tend a garden. This gives them something to care for. Or, you can encourage them to volunteer their time in a community service. This takes the focus off of their current problem and helps them to think of someone else who needs their attention.

There are so many ways to help your child avoid stress. It’s best to find out what they like and what works for them to get the best results.

You don’t think that you can choose your children’s friends?

Yes you can, absolutely!

However, there is only a small window of opportunity when parents get to choose their children’s friends, playmates, etc., and the key is to do it when they’re young. When they are little, parents decide what kids (and other parents) to let their children play with. That’s because we take them on the play-dates, we manage their playtime and we monitor their play activity. Since we’re so involved at that stage, we can decide who, what, when and where we’re willing to do to involve other children in our kids lives.

One of the most important reasons to choose your child’s friends is so that you can help instill some of the family’s values and morals that you want to in your child. If you allow your child to play and interact with other families whose values and beliefs match your own, there is a likelier chance that when they get to the stage where they can choose their own friends, they will make the preferred choice.

Choosing their friends doesn’t mean snubbing others or alienating people. It simply means controlling the environment where they will spend the bulk of their time. Whatever the child is around the most, seeing and interacting with a lot is going to become a part of who they are and how they think. By controlling that, you’re limiting chances of any negative input.

Of course, this is ideal for any parent who wants their child to make good choices, but nothing is guaranteed. However, by exposing them to what you want them to do and the beliefs that you feel strongly about, you stand a better chance of them leaning that way than if you did nothing at all.

Having debt is having a millstone around your neck. No matter how much you try to pretend it doesn’t bother you, it does. It haunts you night and day and leaves you feeling helpless and a failure. Stop drowning and free yourself. You can with a good debt consolidation service.

The first step is tell yourself – Enough! Make a firm commitment to yourself that you are going to get out of debt and free yourself from this inner turmoil. Free yourself debt collectors and annoying phone calls which never seem to cease. Free yourself from the sick feeling that invades your subconscious.

When you consolidate your debt, you pack up all your troubles in one kit bag and let someone else help you settle your debt. Sharing the problem is half the battle because you do not feel alone. In as little as 24-36 months you can be free again and regain your self esteem and self confidence. You do not have face the shame of bankruptcy and the sooner you settle the debt with one low monthly payment, the sooner you can rebuild your credit.

By consolidating your debts, you will avoid the added accumulation of interest and the ever spiraling amount keeps you trapped. Do not be afraid. There are people out there who care and who can help you. With careful planning you can reduce your debt, manage your budget and repair your credit. It may be hard to start with but it will be worth it in the end.

The wonders of mommy-hood is being able to juggle several things at once; work, home, activities and of course, the children’s play-dates. Socialization for children is a very important component of growing up. Children need that play time, and establishing set time in the form of play-dates helps them to formulate social skills and develop coping mechanisms. But for mom to schedule those play-dates, it can be a challenging task!

Managing several children with their own play-dates, times and other children may require a full-time secretary just to keep up with it! That secretary would be you, and you don’t have to feel overwhelmed if you’re lucky enough to manage it.

- Schedule play dates around your own schedule. If you have work to do on your laptop, take the kids to the park and let them play while you work. Do this in short increments like 30 minutes or an hour at the most. Young children don’t do well for extended periods, but you’ll be able to satisfy two tasks at once.

- Establish set days and times. Make it a scheduled, predictable event and it will be easier for you to juggle. Sync your calendar with the other mommies in your social circle so that everyone can get it in and keep it in a true socialized group setting. It also gives the mommies something to look forward to for their social time!

- Provide snacks. Play-dates are ALWAYS fun if there is food involved! Make sure you are aware of any food allergies, etc. and supply snacks to keep the kids going and enjoying themselves while they play.

By doing these small things, no longer will play-dates become a dreaded affair or an overwhelming idea for you. It can be very enjoyable, entertaining and manageable with these tips.

The time has come. Whether you’re excitedly nervous, or simply dreading it altogether, your child is getting ready to play in his first organized sport. Many communities offer organized sports activities anywhere from slow-pitch softball to competitive football. In some areas, there are even awards and trophies presented for the best teams participating.

Organized sports are of course a lot of fun, and very exciting. However, as the parent of the child who is going to be participating, it’s also going to take some organizing for you to get ready too. There may be demanding practice times, lengthy practices, buying additional equipment and even possibly additional training for the child outside of the sport activity in order to get your child ready to play.

Before deciding to sign your child up to play anything, make sure that he (and you) understand the time commitment that you’ll both be making. Will it interfere with homework? Will you need to take off work earlier to get him to practices? Are they mature enough to handle the sport, and do they understand wins and losses?

Once that’s settled and you’re ready to begin, it’s time to let the games begin! Whatever sport your child is playing in, allow it to become a teaching mechanism for other areas in his life:

- Sports teach discipline. They may not always get a "turn", so they have to learn to wait.

- Sports teach sharing, and allowing others to "shine" when necessary.

- Sports teach teamwork and commitment. They will learn to work together with others to achieve a common goal.

- Sports teach fortitude. They will learn that every time something is hard or challenging to do, they can’t and shouldn’t give up.

In the end, your child will appreciate all of their hard work. They’ll hopefully learn to love sports and its multiple benefits.

Some moms never get to finish or realize their goal of finishing college. Maybe they started their families early and put that goal on the back burner. Or perhaps they feel inclined to pursue another degree and make the big decision to go back to school. For whatever reason they may have, mom going back to school is a good thing, especially if she has the full support of her family behind her.

Most moms have a very busy and full life. So fitting another thing onto her schedule may be overwhelming. However, if adding in one more thing on her list is something that makes her happy and feel complete, then she should definitely do it!

Going back to school can be achieved in so many ways:

- Mom can go to school online to pursue her degree. There is a lot of flexibility and convenience in this method, and many moms prefer this over the traditional classroom setting.

- She can attend weekend-only classes, which is often only a two-day commitment. Most of these types of classes require the student to be in class for the full day, sometimes for eight or nine hours. But the flip side is that they don’t have to carve out time during the week to attend classes.

- She can do a mixture of online and offline attending so as to create a more flexible schedule for the family. This works especially well for moms with young children and limited access to childcare assistance.

When a mom decides to go back to school to further her education, she’s making a very important step towards helping her family, herself and in fulfilling her goals. In the end, she’s likely to feel more confident and strengthened since she has met one of her life’s goals.

Moms need time out too. No, not the kind of time out from being mischievous, but the kind of time outs that re-energize her for the tasks of being a mom, a parent and in handling all of the other responsibilities that she has in her life. A time out for mommies do make them better moms, increases their social circles and gives them something to look forward to on a regular basis.

What would be the best time out for a mom? Ask 100 different moms and you’ll get 100 different answers! That’s because each mom has different stresses in her life and deals with those stresses in different ways. Whether she’s a shopper who copes with heavy responsibilities that way, or she’s a book reader who likes to wind down with her latte and a hardcover, she finds out what works best for her and does just that.

Some ideas include:

- Exercising regularly. This is the time to shut out everything and do something for YOU.

- Going out with friends. A great time to connect and spend time with other adults.

- Bubble baths, candles, wine and music. Are you getting sleepy yet?

- Reading. Keeping your favorite book by your bed and reading some of it every night not only helps you to unwind, but is a great relaxation method as well.

In order for mom to really get a lot of benefit from her time out events, she should do them on a regular, scheduled basis. Even if it’s 30 minutes or an hour at a time once or twice a week, her time outs will be so much more beneficial than if she did them every now and then. She’ll feel and act so much happier knowing she’s got some time scheduled that just “for her.”

Most households have a system that lets them run in some type of organized manner. It may be organized chaos, but it’s chaos nonetheless, and it works to keep the family in order. Schedules, routines, lists, etc. are all things that work towards helping many busy family’s stay on top of their busy lives and bringing to it a level of manageability. Without it, everyone would be walking around confused, irritated and wouldn’t know what to do!

Running a household in an organized manner is not hard to do. Part of what can make the task easier is implementing one routine at a time to get the family acclimated to things being run a certain way. Introducing a lot of schedules or routines all at once can be not only overwhelming, but can also fail out of confusion and even irritation.

- Laundry

Set a certain laundry day of the week when ALL of the laundry gets done. Have designated family members to be in charge of it and to make sure that the process is completed.

- Rooms

Designate a room or multiple rooms per each person in the household, making them responsible for cleaning and straightening it up. This ensures that every room, at all times is in order. Establish certain times to attend to it (i.e, every day at 4:00 p.m.).

- Kitchen

Involve the entire family in cooking and cleaning in the kitchen. This reduces the workload for one person and gets everyone involved.

After a small amount of time in getting used to a household routine, the family will start operating in a smoother fashion and things will flow easier with everything in place. They may even able to find shortcuts to certain routines and an easier way to do things. Ultimately, organization for the home will be a good thing, and the family will feel better for it.
